ISLA Mexico creates a cinematic Cheetos spot inspired by Wednesday, blending humor and pop culture.

Snack drama comes to Jericho, courtesy of the latest collab between Cheetos and “Wednesday”—a 90-second spot from PepsiCo Mexico with plenty of spooky flair.

The brand reimagined the gothic town at the heart of the Netflix series for the ad, in which a seemingly ordinary day is turned upside down by the arrival of a vending machine packed with Cheetos. The spotlight falls on Thing, the show’s famously dexterous and disembodied hand, which suddenly faces the nearly impossible task of cracking open a chip bag with only four fingers and one thumb.

The theme is “Anything for Cheetos,” and as the campaign title suggests, the story spirals into ever more absurd lengths as Thing attempts to satisfy its cravings.

Created by agency Isla Mexico and directed by Nicolás Pérez Veiga through Primo, the spot layers in cinematic detail, including work from Mirada, the post-production shop tied to the original series. The moody soundtrack features the legendary voice of Chavela Vargas singing “La Llorona,” adding an eerie kick to the mostly cheesy escapade.

Cheetos and “Wednesday” have enjoyed a fruitful collab around season 2 of the series, beginning in the U.S. back in July, when Thing was spotted leaving orange “Thingerprints” around Times Square.
